Safety

We are committed to maintaining a safety process which actively involves all employees in identifying, preventing and correcting workplace safety issues to reduce accidents and injuries.

People

We retain on contract over 1,000 in-house seagoing staff. Our North Star Cadet Programme commits to supporting British shipping, training in excess of 80 Deck and Engineering Cadets each year.

As a group, we’ve invested >£500 million since 2021 in our vessels supporting the offshore wind industry – ensuring class leading utilisation. With the exacting demands of Offshore Wind, our new-builds continue this solid growth.

Our Service Operation Vessels (SOVs) are anything but off the shelf. Every vessel is designed and built from the ground up in close collaboration with our clients and tailored to the specific needs of your project, your platform, and your operational goals. 

This bespoke approach is made possible by the strong, long-term relationships we foster, allowing us to co-create solutions that truly fit. Our innovation is driven by data and refined through a culture of continuous learning across our crews and fleet.

Built for efficiency

Workflow and operational areas remain a key and focal point of any North Star vessel, specifically designed to respond to our own experience and client expectations. 

Collaborative open plan office spaces and control centres which prioritise workflow efficiency and minimise handling and lifting. 

Our workflow has been designed with a smooth and logical client personnel transition from cabin to turbine and back; ensuring technicians collect what they need, and return, clean down and dry after operations. 

Optimised cargo movement from quayside to our onboard warehouse utilises our innovative side-loading, and internal elevator to ensure cargo transfer throughout the range of the tide and removes the need for lifting/suspended loads. 

These carefully considered and planned workflows minimise redundancy throughout operations. Our workflows are already demonstrating an increase in port call efficiency through our innovative side­loading design. Port calls are feasibly modelled around a 6 hour loading, when working with North Star. 

Developed for your team's wellbeing on board

We have designed onboard environments that promote healthy living and fosters social interaction, benefiting both mental and physical health as well as providing a proactive response system to support mental wellbeing.

  • Open plan mess areas and multifunctional spaces to add a community feel and facilitate operating as one team onboard.
  • Comfortable retreats for socialising; spaces for reading, gaming and coming together. 
  • A dedicated crew cabin deck, equipped with C2 comfort rated sleeping accommodation with external windows for everyone.
  • Excellent communication networks connected through Starlink and 4G in-field communication networks to reduce isolation.
  • High specification, fully equipped gym to support health and fitness.

From digital twin technologies to manage preventative maintenance and improve operational readiness to integrated mission planning and decision support systems, everything is aligned to ensure the best efficiency and operation.

Best in class daughter craft

Our SOVs can be equipped with our propriety high performance offshore wind daughter craft.

Our exclusive workboat has been designed alongside the award winning naval architects at Chartwell Marine. It sets new standards in high performance, passenger comfort, and low emissions. From the keel up, it is a bespoke design, with the requirements for increased performance in offshore transfer, passenger comfort and workability at its core.
